HOW ARE OUR REPRESENTATIVES VOTING
VOTES RELATIVE TO IMMIGRATION HAVE BEEN SHOWN ELSEWHERE ON THIS SITE. THESE
NEED BE HERE
July 8, 2009
I am really confused. Perhaps I should not be, having tracked the votes
of the Senators from Indiana for several years. Anyway, the two votes illustrated,
below, should be noted. I will add some comments:
Vote 219 was held in the Senate. The vote was relative to the e-verify
system. The e-verify system required/allowed employers to verify the employment
eligibility of persons through a government website. Since it is against
the law to employ illegal aliens, the system assisted employers. The vote
was to table, not allow a vote in the Senate, of Senator Sessions amendment
1371 to HR 2892, to make the program permanent. The motion to table failed:
Nay - 53, Yea - 44. Some votes:
Bayh - Yea
Lugar - Nay
Franken - Yea
Vote 220 was held in the Senate on Senator DeMint's Amendment 1399 to the
same bill. The amendment will require completion of the border fence between
Mexico and our country. The Amendment passed, Yea - 54; Nay - 44; Not Voting
- 2. Some votes were:
Bayh - Yea
Lugar - Nay
Franken - Nay
[Does anyone else see a reason for confusion? Employers must comply with
the law - good and bad. We must protect our borders - good and bad. You
can ask the question at http://www.senate.gov ]
February 24, 2009
A vote re Indiana SB 580 was held in the Indiana State Senate. The bill
passed Yeas - 37; Nays - 13. The bill will hold accountable employers who
hire illegal aliens. Senators' vote are below. It now goes to the Indiana
State House of Representatives for consideration. [As of June 12, 2009, The democrat controlled Indiana House of Representatives has taken no action on SB 580.]

March 13, 2008
Vote No. 00069, Amdt 4309 to S Con Res 70 was held in the US Senate. The
amendment would have denied federal funds to cities that had designated
themselves as "sanctuary cities" for illegal aliens. The vote
was to table the amendment so that a vote to pass or reject could not be
held. The motion to table passed: Aye - 58; Nay - 40; Not Voting - 2. Some
votes were:
Bayh - Aye ![]()
Lugar - Aye ![]()
Clinton - Aye
Kennedy - Aye
Kerry - Aye
Obama - Aye
McCain - Not Voting [Would have liked to have seen a vote here. Did the Senator get the memo
or is he ducking? He was present for Vote 00054 and then seems to have
gone AWOL Everyone gets picked on here.]
October 24, 2007

Voting - 4. Votes were:

[Again, Nay was a vote to kill the bill]
June 27, 2007
Before we go further, the Webmaster is pleased no one placed any bets on
the outcome of the Senate cloture vote, even though he would have broken
even. On June 26th, Vote No 00228 re S 1639, Immigration, was held. Cloture
passed: Yea - 64; Nay - 35; Not Voting - 1. Votes of interest were:
Lugar - Yea
Bayh - Nay ![]()
Clinton - Yea
Kennedy - Yea
Kerry - Yea
[If one were opposed to amnesty, Nay would be the correct vote]
June 22, 2007
Reportedly a cloture vote to allow the invasion bill to come to the floor
of the Senate with a limitation that no more amendments would be acceptable
was held. A "yes" vote is a vote for a flawed proposition. The
webmaster is taking bets on how Indiana Senators vote.
June 20, 2007
It has risen again. It is now S 1639. Still amensty with a new number.
Reportedly, this bill is dead. Stay tuned. Dead things have been said to

change his mind.] Votes follow:

On May 24, 2007, there came a vote in the Senate relative to S 1348, the
immigration bill. The vote pertained to an Amendment 1158 which would have
facilitated the sharing of immigration status of individuals between federal
and local law enforcement agencies. The amendment would have changed a
1996 restriction. I will take the opportunity to report the vote and to
make some comments. Vote 00177, S 1348, Amendment 1158 failed: Nay - 49;
Yea - 48; Not Voting - 3
Lugar - Nay
Bayh - Yea ![]()

Those not voting were:
Senator Brownbeck (R) KS
Senator Johnson (D) SD
Senator Thomas (R) WY
[If we were to assume that Brownbeck and Thomas would have supported an
amendment to increase the ability of Law enforcement to protect the Homeland,
the vote would have been Yea - 51. Had Johnson voted Nay, the vote would
have been 50 Yea; 50 Nay. The President of the Senate, the only Constitutional
duty of the Vice President, could have broken the tie. Senator Bayh broke
with his party's position. and supported the amendment. Represented his
State? I hope so. Senator Lugar is no conservative. His votes have, however,
been consistent. We got what we voted for.]
President Bush has signed the Border Fence Bill. Cool beans. But before
we celebrate, there ain't no bucks. Our Senators can say they voted for
after they voted against. Scroll down for the July 13, 2006, vote. They
