LUGAR WATCH

This page will link to votes on several subjects.
Senator Lugar's votes are listed on several pages as compared to those of Senator Bayh and others.
For those interested in the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and to participate in the
hunting and shooting sports, one might want to consider one of the Senator's long time advisors and the
person who has been identified as his campaign manager. Mark C. Helmke is the brother of former Fort Wayne
Mayor Paul Helmke

In an interesting turn of events, Paul Helmke has resigned as head of the Brady Bunch

February 2, 2012
Vote 008, Senator Toomey Amdt to S 2038, to prohibit earmarks was held in the US Senate. The Amendment failed: Yea 40; Nay 59; Not Voting 1. Indiana Senators voted:

Coats - Yea
Lugar - Nay

December 20, 2011
Senator Lugar may be worried. He appeared, after a long absence, on the WIBC Garrison Show. Most questions were soft-ball. Even so, Senator Lugar waffled on the now discredited global warming scam. No questions re his support of two anti-2nd Amendment SCOTUS nominees and his support of anti-gun legislation.

December 6, 2011
A cloture vote no. 00222, was held in the Senate regarding the nomination of Caitlin J. Halligan for US Curcuit Judge, District of Columbia. Cloture failed: Yea - 54; Nay 45; Present - 1. Both Senators Coats and Lugar voted Nay. Interesting to note that Senator Lugar voted to confirm anti-2nd Amendment Justices to the Surpreme Court; but as he approaches re-election, he found fault with this nominee. Juducual Nominations

November 7, 2011
Senator Lugar responded to a question re his position on HR 822, National Reciprosity Act:

The Senator did not identify the law enforcement organizations to which he refered. Given his position, however, one wonders if this could be one http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/NewsReleases.aspx?ID=14485

The Senator's vote re the "Debt" at Votes

July 22, 2011, 44 US Senators sent a letter to President Obama informing him that they would oppose the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. The letter can be found at http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/InTheNews.aspx?ID=15363 . Senator Dan Coats signed the letter; Senator Richard Lugar did not.

Several local blogs have treated what may become a problem for Senator Lugar. Reportedly, he has voted for several years in an Indiana Precinct in which he does not reside. Recently, an Indiana State elected official has been indicted for what seems to be similiar activity. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/02/questions_surround_sen_lugars.html. American Thinker does not treat the more specific question. One must vote in the precinct in one is a resident. Senator Lugar's oversight is more specifically addressed at http://www.ogdenonpolitics.com . Just search Lugar.

Senator Lugar is facing a ground-swell from the various Tea Party supporters in Indiana. His recent support for renewal of the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" seems another indication of his growing inclination to ignore the positions of the People of Indiana. The Huffington Post and others are praising his position. Some http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/01/lugar_wants_to_renew_assault_w.html are not so supportive. February 8, 2011, Newsmax reported that Indiana State Tressurer Richard Mourdock would soon announce his intention to challenge Senator Lugar in the Republican Primary in 2012. Newsmax reported that Indiana has an open primary which would allow Demorats to affect the outcome. That, of course, is not accurate. Indiana has a closed primary. Only registered, Republican voters will choose the candidate.
