As one can see from a reading of The Law by Bastiat, the philosphy that a few can regulate society so that all are equal, productive and happy is not new. One may also see that even in 1850 anyone opposed to such social order was merely crying wolf.

Chapter II of the manifesto is reproduced here. The whole thing is scary but this is most representative.

We should ask ourselves how far we have come in realizing many of the goals of socialism/communism.

The United States of america cannot be defeated from without. It can only be defeated from within.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, many equated that victory with the end of communism. That was not the case. There are still those who believe communism failed in Russia only because its leaders were not smart enough. There are always those who think that they are the ones who are wise enough to make a failed proposition work.

Communism was not born in Russia. Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) wrote about the shortcomings of socialist-communist ideas in The Law published in June 1850, well before the revelolution in Russia. Bastiat's pamphlet may be found at The Law.
